Before I ever opened Figma, I was running two Shopify stores, managing six-figure ad spend on Meta, sourcing products from overseas factories, and answering customer tickets at midnight. I learned what good design was by losing money to bad design.

Most designers start with theory. I started with a Shopify store, a credit card, and products arriving in shipping containers from China. Two years of that taught me more about what users need than any bootcamp ever could.

That operator instinct followed me into tech — through crypto startups where I simplified blockchain UIs that scared off normal people, into 3.5 years of enterprise product design at Glacier FarmMedia, and now into Volta, where I build full-stack platforms for niche industries.

Booking systems, client portals, marketing automation — the things most designers spec but never ship. I ship them. Then I run the ads that bring in the users, and I watch the numbers to see if any of it actually worked.

Philosophy

I don't design from assumptions — I design from the operator's seat. If I haven't run the campaign, handled the support ticket, or watched the conversion rate at 2 AM, I don't pretend to understand the problem.
